Mutual Aid Childcare Initiative in West Village Set to Open in Spring

Based on the report, community members and established organizations have come together to establish the West Village Community Drop-In — a mutual aid neighborhood support space for free childcare in Ithaca’s West Hill neighborhood. Apart from that, it was mentioned in the news that Ana Ortiz and Jessica Custer-Bindel, co-founders of the Ithaca Care Collective, as well as friends, mothers and community members, created the drop-in program from the idea that families shouldn’t have to be alone when it comes to childcare. Lastly, it was also reported that Ortiz, a resident of West Village Apartments, and Custer-Bindel spoke to management in October about using the village’s community center and the program came together quickly from there.
